Reflection Week 2 DFI

It was nice to start off the session reflecting on what we had been able to use during the week.  I thought that I was setting myself small goals but listening to what others had done over the week I had achieved quite a bit.  My next step now is to run a staff session to pass on my new knowledge to the girls at work.

I found this very useful to see the link between SAMR and Blooms.

We had a  reminder about how these device are there to turbo charge our teaching not replace teachers but we need keep up with the changes or change jobs.

Google Keep - I could see this not only helping me in my personal life but we could introduce this with the staff and we would have more transparency.  I must talk with Jo and Vanessa about using this.  The reminders especially will be really helpful.

One of the best parts today was going back to basics and looking at Gmail and Google Calendar.  These are things I use every day but never spend too much time learning all the wee tricks within them.  I was able to pick up on lots of little tricks and tips to help organise both of these apps much better.  Next weeks goal to try and get these sorted and up and running much better.

Being able to use Google hangout and have a go at presenting was fantastic for me as Madeline is going to be doing some of our Toki time via Google hangout which makes me feeling so much better about doing this.  The collaborative task we did using quicktime and google hangout taught me a number of things, how to use quicktime, how to move a file from the desk top to my drive and how to rename a quick time file.

I can see that Onetab is going to be my new best friend!!  Currently I have 16 tabs open and that is a small amount for me.  It has been driving me nuts so this should help reduce this 'clutter' for me.

I didn't love having the presenter via Google hang out but understand it was the best option due to the weather conditions.  There were also people around me who were very disengaged which at times made it hard to stay on task.  This was a good reminder of how some of the children have to cope at times.

Digital Fluency Intensive - Week 1 - Reflection

It was wonderful to get an in-depth understanding of the background behind the Manaiakalani project.  It has been a long process that really has revamped the way we teach or lead learning, and of course the way the children learn.

I feel that this has confirmed I have a good understanding around the 'Learn, Create, Share' model.  I believe I still have a lot to learn but what I have implemented so far in the classroom is a lot further ahead than some others.

I was able to put my new found knowledge about google groups into action already by creating a Room 5 google group.  I have a number of ideas already around how I can incorporate this into our classroom program.

One big thing I need to start changing is I have allowed the children to choose what they name their work but I should be controlling this more.  I will now introduce to the children AKBSummer LJ format as per the example we did.

The scavenger hunt idea showed me a great way to incorporate digital skills across any curriculum area.  I am going to make this and use this during a funday Friday.

Dorathy showed me how to use keynote which is a mac tool that I was not aware of.  This tool can allow me to move pixels so the image sits on the background much better.

I felt that this week was really worth while and I can't wait to gain more confidence with these new tools and use them on a regular basis.
