Reflection Week 2 DFI

It was nice to start off the session reflecting on what we had been able to use during the week.  I thought that I was setting myself small goals but listening to what others had done over the week I had achieved quite a bit.  My next step now is to run a staff session to pass on my new knowledge to the girls at work.

I found this very useful to see the link between SAMR and Blooms.

We had a  reminder about how these device are there to turbo charge our teaching not replace teachers but we need keep up with the changes or change jobs.

Google Keep - I could see this not only helping me in my personal life but we could introduce this with the staff and we would have more transparency.  I must talk with Jo and Vanessa about using this.  The reminders especially will be really helpful.

One of the best parts today was going back to basics and looking at Gmail and Google Calendar.  These are things I use every day but never spend too much time learning all the wee tricks within them.  I was able to pick up on lots of little tricks and tips to help organise both of these apps much better.  Next weeks goal to try and get these sorted and up and running much better.

Being able to use Google hangout and have a go at presenting was fantastic for me as Madeline is going to be doing some of our Toki time via Google hangout which makes me feeling so much better about doing this.  The collaborative task we did using quicktime and google hangout taught me a number of things, how to use quicktime, how to move a file from the desk top to my drive and how to rename a quick time file.

I can see that Onetab is going to be my new best friend!!  Currently I have 16 tabs open and that is a small amount for me.  It has been driving me nuts so this should help reduce this 'clutter' for me.

I didn't love having the presenter via Google hang out but understand it was the best option due to the weather conditions.  There were also people around me who were very disengaged which at times made it hard to stay on task.  This was a good reminder of how some of the children have to cope at times.

  1. Hi Amanda, wasn't it great seeing the link between SAMR and Blooms? Like you I found it so beneficial learning the tricks for Gmail and Calendar, as we just never have time to play with these. It is quite a new experience having sessions via a Hangout and it is very true that people become disengaged. The fact that you related this to our own students is so true, and makes us rethink our seating plan and how we could better encourage those who become off task.

  2. Kia ora Amanda,
I completely agree about using Google Keep and onetab to keep everything under control. I found it so helpful seeing how other people keep control of their tabs so they don't get too overwhelming as I am like you and I tend to get bogged down in what I have open and half the time cannot find the thing I am looking for.

Cannot wait to see what you get out of the DFI this week and into the future.
